TU Delft ICT and CREFM will carry out major maintenance on Data Centre 1 between 4 October and 11 October 2026. During this maintenance period, the power supply infrastructure of the data centre will be replaced to ensure the future reliability and continuity of ICT services.

Who is affected?

This information is relevant for:

Some services, servers, storage systems, and applications may be temporarily unavailable during the maintenance period.

What is changing?

To replace the power supply safely, Data Centre 1 will be taken offline during the maintenance window.

Key dates:

  • Friday 2 October, 18:00 – Start of the regular ICT Maintenance Weekend
  • Sunday 4 October, 12:00 – Data Centre 1 shutdown begins
  • Friday 9 October, 18:00 – Planned restoration of services
  • Sunday 11 October, 18:00 – End of contingency period

During this period, ICT teams will gradually shut down and later restart infrastructure including:

  • Servers
  • Databases
  • Storage systems
  • Network equipment
  • Cooling systems

Why is this maintenance necessary?

The current power supply equipment for Data Centre 1 has reached the end of its lifecycle and must be replaced.

This maintenance is necessary to:

  • Improve the reliability of ICT services
  • Reduce the risk of power-related failures
  • Ensure the data centre remains fit for future use
  • Maintain a stable and secure ICT infrastructure for TU Delft

What does this mean for users?

The maintenance may affect a number of services.

Expected impact

  • Certain research facilities and research servers will be unavailable.
  • DAIC and HPC clusters will be unavailable.
  • DelftBlue will remain available.
  • The OTAP environment (Development, Test, Acceptance and Production) will be unavailable.
  • Some U-drive folders will be inaccessible during the maintenance period.
  • Additional applications may experience downtime.
  • Teaching activities and normal business operations are expected to continue.
  • The impact on certain campus security systems is still being assessed.

Application owners and server administrators will be informed separately where applicable.

What do you need to do?

For all staff and students

  1. Be aware that some applications and U-drive folders may become unavailable.
  2. Save important work before the maintenance period begins.
  3. Check whether your work depends on affected applications or storage locations.
  4. Plan activities accordingly if access to systems is required during the maintenance window.

For server administrators

  1. Ensure servers are shut down in a controlled manner when requested.
  2. Verify that recent backups are available.
  3. Inform your own users about any service interruptions.
  4. Follow communication provided by ICT regarding shutdown and startup procedures.
